The Why I Write and Run
I started running in spring of 2022. But if you know me, then you’ll find it extremely ironic because I used to hate the sport.
I had experience running as an organized sport. In high school I ran junior varsity cross country to fulfill my gym requirement. My friends said it would be fun. It was a nightmare. I came in last nearly every single race.
I gave up running for nearly thirty years. Then about two years ago I ran my first mile. It was a run-walk type of fare. But this time something happened that I had never experienced before. I found clarity that I didn’t know I could get outside of meditation. Whenever I had writer’s block, going for a run would always solve the problem.
It wasn’t just an escape. It was an inspiration.
Soon afterward I bought my first pair of serious running shoes. It was the Puma Deviate Nitro 2. There was so much to learn about in the world of running, not just in the shoes. But the most satisfying thing about it all has been how much I am learning about myself.
Since then I’ve been running several times a week and it’s the reason I started Write or Run. I wanted to share the learning experience and create a community for those who write, for those who run, and for those who enjoy both.
Drop a line and let me know what you find most enjoyable about running or writing!
